Gold medal for Lake Melville Xtreme atoms at provincials

LABRADOR - The Lake Melville Xtreme Atoms hockey team were in Paradise, Newfoundland recently for the Hockey NL Provincial Championships.

Along with the Lake Melville team, there were five other teams from Newfoundland that competed in the three-day tournament hosted by the Paradise Minor Hockey Association at the Paradise Arena that played out a series of round robin matches for the right to play in the gold medal championship game.

After the conclusion of the round robin games, Lake Melville Xtreme, who finished top of the ladder going through the preliminary games undefeated, were paired with the Paradise Warriors, who finished second in the standings.

With the Paradise Warriors having the home ice advantage and support of the locals, it was going to be a tough ask for the young atoms from Goose Bay going into the match.

After the completion of the three periods of play, the Lake Melville Xtreme came out the winners, with a 3-2 victory and was crowned the provincial champions.
