CAPE FREELS SOUTH, N.L.

Cape Freels Heritage Trust Inc. is planning to create a 16 kilometre walking and hiking trail from Cape Freels South to Newtown.

The project was registered for an environmental assessment with the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

The trail will follow an old road used historically by locals but will also have new sections added, according to an environmental assessment bulletin issued by the department.

Trail construction will use a combination of crushed stone and boardwalk and four bridges will need to be constructed to cross brooks along the trail.

The public has until Dec. 19 to submit comments.

Municipal Affairs and Environment Minister Graham Letto’s decision is due by Dec. 29.
