Government seeking another $30.7 through federal infrastructure funding programs

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. —

The Newfoundland and Labrador government revealed one of its big spends from the upcoming provincial budget.

Premier Dwight Ball announced that the province will shell out $50.5 million for 31 provincial-municipal cost-shared projects in 29 communities under the 2017-2020 Municipal Infrastructure Program.

Of this amount, $33.3 million is being provided to multi-year communities for their priority projects.

Ball also announced $48.3 million from Budget 2019 will be used to leverage an additional $30.7 million from the federal infrastructure programs. Project applications are going through the approval process for the Investing in Canada Plan and projects are anticipated to be announced in the near future.

The big ticket item, coming in at over $1.5 million, is a water sewer program for Kavanagh’s Road in Clarke’s Beach.  The lowest cost project is a $17,250 water supply tank assessment by the town of Twillingate.
