Torngat Mountains captures gold at atom I hockey tourney

Playing in their first tournament outside their small Labrador community, the Torngat Mountains players returned home with gold medals.

Under the tutelage of renowned player and coach Juan Strickland, Torngat Mountains upended Botwood 5-4 at the Stephenville Dome April 2 to claim victory at the Steele Hotels Provincial Atom I Hockey Tournament.
Tiger Rich and Justin Piwas both produced a pair of goals for the victors, with Kaleb Dyson adding a single marker.
Braeden Gill (2), Joshua Newhook and Dante Bellissimo scored for Botwood.
In round robin action from earlier in the day, Bay D’Espoir took down Stephenville 12-1.
Marcus Hoskins (3), Brooklyn Framp (2), Ryan Harding, Mark Willcott, Samuel Hoskins, Cole Collier, Ethan Organ, Sebastien Kearley and Johan Jeddore all lit the lamp in the win.
Jewel Boland had Stephenville’s lone goal.
In other round robin action, Torngat Mountains defeated Straits 5-1.
