Charges related to 2017 North West River drug bust called in court

Two of the accused plead not guilty, another to enter a plea in September

HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. — Two of three people arrested in December of 2017 in a drug bust in North West River have pleaded not guilty and are going to trial.

Kevin Montague and Clinton Martin both pleaded not guilty in Happy Valley-Goose Bay court on July 30 and are scheduled back in court on Sept. 4 to set trial dates.

The third person arrested, Martina Lavalle, had her matter set over to Aug. 3 for further disclosure from the Crown. Her charges are also set for Sept. 4, when she is expected to enter a plea.

On Dec. 14 of last year Sheshatshiu RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in North West River and seized cocaine, marijuana, cash and numerous firearms. All three were arrested at that time.

All three are facing charges of producing a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, breach of firearms regulations and unauthorized possession of a firearm, prohibited and/or restricted weapon.

Montague is also facing a count of assault and two breaches of conditions from an unrelated incident.
