HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. – A 63-year-old Happy Valley-Goose Bay man charged after a police investigation into a sexual assault is going to trial.
Joseph Patrick Cooney has pleaded not guilty to sexual interference, sexual assault, forcible confinement, and uttering threats. Cooney is scheduled for a three day trial, starting July 24.
According to an RCMP news release last June, a female youth reported she had been sexually assaulted on the evening of June 2.
The young woman was allegedly approached by a vehicle, believed to be a taxi cab, near the RBC bank branch on Grenfell Street in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
She was offered a ride by the male driver and was allegedly taken to a home where she was then allegedly sexually assaulted. She then left and reported the incident to the RCMP. Cooney was arrested and charged with the alleged crimes.
