HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NL – Four candidates are in the running for the vacant council seat in next month’s municipal by-election in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

They are Cora Hamel-Pardy, Hubert Loder, Tim Saunders and Joe Tremblett.

Nomination day was held in the town Feb. 19.

An advance poll for the election was held on Thursday, March 1.

The by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13. Polling booths will once again be located at the town hall and voting will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The council vacancy is the result of the death of John Hickey, the town’s mayor, in December.

A majority of council voted Wally Andersen, who was deputy mayor, to take on the mayor’s role in January. Coun. Bert Pomeroy was voted in as the new deputy mayor.
