Saga captures 2011 recreation hockey title

The 2011 Recreation Hockey League play-offs in Happy Valley-Goose Bay were fast paced and full of good competition.

The tournament was a one-day event. As the day progressed, more penalties were taken and there were even a few scuffles during the play-offs for the rec league hockey on Apr.16.

Six teams took part in the one-day tournament at the E.J. Broomfield arena. Each team played a minimum of three games with some teams playing as many as five games.

The seven teams who competed in the hockey league were divided into two pools with the four top teams advancing to the semi-finals.

In semi-final play, team Saga took out team Hamilton Drugs with a 6-2 score and team Lab Blizzard took out team Innu Mikun with a score of 5-2.  

Saga took on Lab Blizzard in the championship game, overtaking their competitors with a 7-2 win to take home the 2011 Bentley rec league title.
