Three U12 soccer teams from Happy Valley-Goose Bay recently participated in a provincial tournament held on the island portion of the province.

The girls team played in St. John’s where they worked their way towards gold. The team played four other teams St. Lawrence, Bay Bulls, Labrador City, and St. Pierre-Miquelon in the C-D division.

The team won two games and lost two. In the championship game they won gold in the D division.

There were three individual awards given out in the team, where Julia Kelland was named MVP, Emily Snow was named Most Spirited, and Alyssa Chiasson was awarded the Hard Hat award.

Two boys teams from Happy Valley-Goose Bay travelled to Gander to play in the tournament. Happy Valley-Goose Bay Team Two faced stiff competition and lost to Goulds in the tournament opener. The team won their second game against Marystown with a score of 4-2. They lost their third with a close game of 3-2 against Paradise. Paradise went on the win the C division title and Happy Valley-Goose Bay Team Two was the only team to score against throughout the tournament. The team finished third in their division. In the D division, the team played their semi-final game against Burin. In a real close game, they beat Burin 4-3 to advance to the final against Conception Bay North. The final was a close fought game and remained tied 1-1 after regulation. The game went into a shoot out where Conception Bay North netted two goals in five kicks. Happy Valley-Goose Bay netted one to finish in second place and claim a silver medal in the D division championship.

Individual awards were given out to the team. They went to Mitchell Barry who was named MVP, Michael Power who was named Most Spirited, and Nick Parsons was awarded the Hard Hat award.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay 1 went undefeated through regular round robin play with score of 4-1 of Conception Bay North, 2-1 over Burin, and tied 2-2 against Torbay. The team was then moved up to C Division where they were up against other first and second place teams. It was in this division the team experienced their first loss of the tournament.

Individual awards given out in the team went to, Kevin Wall who was named MVP, Lucas Compton who was named Most Spirited, and Nick Battcock was awarded the Hard Hat award.
