The 27th annual Canoe Regatta was held on the long weekend of July 31 to August 2. The weekend was a success with hundreds of people coming to watch the races in the voyager canoes in the hot, sunny weather. People also took advantage of the several concessions on the shores of Gosling Lake.

The River Ratts came first in the Senior Men’s Championship with a time of 20:34:33, winning a cash prize of $250 between its six paddlers. The Uptown Boys, who only entered the competition at the last minute on Saturday morning, came in second with a time of 21:43:50. In third place was 5 Wing Men with a time of 22:03:39.

Also taking home a cash prize of $250 for the Senior Female Championship Race was Ray’s Racers who placed first with a time of 24:17:69. It was Mulligan’s Gladiators first time paddling at the Regatta and they made a very close second at 24:29:65. CRB Girls came third with a time of 25:32:30.

Throughout the weekend there was a strongman competition, won by Kent Coish and a log sawing competition. There was also live entertainment all weekend as well as fireworks on Saturday and Sunday Night. Saturday and Sunday night also saw a pub on the beach as well as Beer Olympics.

Youth activities were held in the afternoon of Saturday and Sunday with children trying to win a scavenger hunt, cakewalk and a mummy game.
