All of this over a distance of some 15 kilometers from the HV-GB fire hall to the fire site, on the North West River Road. This could only have been accomplished by a very professional and efficient fire department. (aided, of course, by the very professional and efficient barking of Maxxel Dog (rename Fire Dog # 1), and Maya Mia, (renamed Fire Dog # 2) — (both without spots), who woke us up just in the nick of time.
We stood helplessly watching as the main structure on the lot, only 20 feet from the burning shed, beginning to blacken. It was truly a relief to see the fire truck and firefighters arriving on the scene. At one point, just before the arrival of the fire truck, two window boxes on the main structure actually burst into flame. It was at this precise moment the fire fighters began hosing down the fire to both structures. The shed was destroyed and the main house was blackened and 10 windows cracked and shattered, but the home was saved!
Not enough can be said for the efficient response time, given the distance from the fire hall to the burning building, This fire department, was totally professional efficient and effective in carrying out their duties. They are a department the Town folks can be very proud of and assured excellent service. (Maxxel and Maya Mia say they wish to retire from fire-fighting now, so to the HV-GB Fire Department, it’s not much use in asking them to become a part of the team!)
This is truly a superb volunteer group and they deserve our heartfelt thanks.
