A former employee with the Town of Port aux Basques is facing 17 charges related to alleged theft from the town.
Police are not yet releasing the name of the suspect, but the charges include five counts of theft in excess of $5,000, five counts of fraud in excess of $5,000, and seven counts of falsification of books and documents.
Corporal Mike Reidpath of the Port aux Basques RCMP said the first complaint was made on Feb. 11. That investigation is now complete.
In that case, the RCMP has laid the charges. The matter has been passed on to local Crown attorneys, who will make the determination whether or not to prosecute.
A second separate investigation into alleged theft by another town employee is ongoing.
Port aux Basques Mayor Lloyd Mushrow declined to comment on the matters, saying they are before the courts.
