Cause determined in two other recent fires
Investigators haven’t determined the cause of a weekend fire that extensively damaged a home on George’s Pond Place off Blackmarsh Road in St. John’s.
A Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) spokesman said investigators are waiting on lab result from the blaze that happened around 7:45 a.m. Sunday.
It was the third house fire in the last couple of weeks.
A July 2 fire on Buckmaster’s Circle in the city centre left two people homeless. Four people were treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of that fire was electrical, caused by an appliance, the RNC said.
Two cats died in the fire, and 11 cats survived and are in the care of local animal welfare group Heavenly Creatures.
On June 30, a woman escaped a fire at 400 Empire Ave.
The homeowner watched frantically as a passerby — Ryan Collins — and a neighbour saved her pets from the extensively damaged house.
The cause of that fire was accidental, but no further details were available.
