The Bay St. George RCMP detachment is investigating several incidents of fraud that have occurred in the Stephenville area over the past five days.
According to the RCMP, in two cases, men called local businesses advising the employees who answered the phone that they were owed money for services provided to the businesses.
They advised the employees that the business owners had authorized payments to be made, and then picked up the payment from the business.
In another case, a man phoned a business pretending to be the holder of an account at the business. He then placed an order, and told the employee a third party would come to pick up the order. The caller himself then picked up the order that had been charged to the account.
