No charges expected from accident that killed Stephenville woman

Police say no charged are expected following the death of a 65-year-old woman from Stephenville, who was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Friday evening.

Mary Walker (née Carey) has been identified as the victim of the accident, which happened on Massachusetts Drive in Stephenville at around 7 p.m.

The woman was immediately transported to the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation by the Bay St. George RCMP revealed that the area was experiencing white-out conditions and the woman was walking on the road at the time of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and he and his passengers, along with other motorists, offered assistance at the scene.

Alcohol was not a factor in the collision and no charges are anticipated at this time.

    What a tragedy. That area is horrible. Maybe the sidewalks should be plowed more often so people don't have to walk on the roads
