Set for 10-day preliminary trial on first-degree murder charges

A woman charged with the first-degree murder of Harbour Round native Jason Skinner is in court in Grand Falls-Windsor this week.

Wanda Ash being escorted to an earlier court appearance. She is back in court this week for a preliminary hearing for her first-degree murder charges.

Wanda Ash, 34, is slated for 10 days in provincial court for a preliminary hearing, which started Monday. The preliminary hearing will determine if there is enough evidence available for Ash to stand trial for the murder in Supreme Court.

Ash and co-accused Pamela Pike were arrested in April after police found Skinner badly injured in a Grand Falls-Windsor residence owned by a local homelessness shelter. Skinner later died in hospital. Pike and Ash have remained in police custody since their arrest.

Pike is slated to be back in court to make an application for a bail hearing on Feb. 18.

Jason was my great nephew & the suffering in the family is so sad to watch. Now the parents are having to relive it all again. Even with NFLD's new wealth the help provided Jason was minimal & it seemed safety was not a major concern for the residents of the shelter, if it was we wouldn't be where we are today. Good luck Wanda & Melvin. Also sad for the accused's families. Nobody wins
