Snowmobile had broken down

Two missing snowmobilers from Nain have been located after being missing for nearly a day.

According to an RCMP press release, the two men were found in a cabin safe and sound earlier this morning.

“A 54 year old man and his 18 year old son were reported missing to the Nain RCMP at approximately 930 PM on January 16th after they failed to return from a wood cutting trip.

Family members, and members of Nain Ground Search and Rescue attempted to locate the men last night, but were unsuccessful and the search was called off until daylight.

Nain Ground Search and Rescue members returned to the area this morning and were assisted in the search by the RCMP Air Services Section from Happy Valley Goose Bay.

At approximately 1130 AM, both men were located. The snowmobile they had been operating had broken down, and they walked to an unoccupied cabin in the area.

Neither man was injured and both were brought back to Nain safely.”
