Christmas just got a little merrier for 16 people in Labrador City.
On Thursday, Atlantic Lottery announced that a ticket sold in that community was a major winner for the Christmas Day Lotto 6/49 draw.

Michel Cayouette, general manager of Carol Automobile, confirmed later Thursday when contacted by The Telegram that 16 employees of the Ford dealership will share $1 million. That group includes himself.
“It’s amazing, really,” he said. “When you look at validating your ticket and it’s showing you have the winning ticket of $1 million, it’s pretty impressive. It’s hard to believe it’s a winning ticket. “
The win will give each employee involved in the office pool $62,500.
It was a garage employee responsible for handling lottery ticket purchases who first realized theirs was a winner. She contacted Cayouette Thursday morning, after which they both went to the business where the ticket was purchased to confirm they had a winner.
Cayouette said staff at Carol Automobile have been pooling their resources to purchase lottery tickets for many years. He has not had enough time to think about how he might use his share of the lottery win.
“I think we’ll just try to appreciate the moment that we’re winners. I think until we really see the amount on the cheque and (go through) the process to get that approved and get the cheque in our hand, we’ve got some thinking to do.”
It may take time for the big win to find its way into the bank accounts of the 16 winners. According to Cayouette, signatures need to be obtained from everyone that’s a part of the office pool. One of those people is away until early January, he said.
