Four youths have been charged with arson in connection with a fire Wednesday night that started in a bedroom at the Charles J. Andrew Treatment Centre in Sheshatshiu.
RCMP in Sheshatshiu were advised of the fire around 9:38 p.m. The Sheshatshiu Fire Department and the North West River Fire Department responded but the sprinkler system in the building had already extinguished the small fire.
An RCMP investigation has determined that a mattress had been intentionally lit on fire and as a result, four youth ranging in ages from 13 to 16 have been charged with arson.
The youth will be appearing this morning in Happy Valley-Goose Bay provincial court for a bail hearing. Police say there were no injuries and damage to the building was minimal.
The RCMP would like to thank the community of Sheshatshiu for its assistance in locating the youth responsible.
