UPDATE: The TCH east of Benton is once again down to one lane while crews work to clear debris from a blocked culvert.

According to Kevin Higgins of the Gander Beacon, highway crews were working on clearing debris that had blocked a culvert running under the highway just east of Benton Saturday afternoon. Two-lane traffic was flowing when Higgins arrived but was reduced back to one when work started .

Higgins said crews didn’t have a time frame on how long it would take to clear the debris and open up all lanes of the TCH.

Meanwhile, other highways and sideroads in Central Newfoundland are also experiencing flooding according to the RCMP who are advising that motorists use extreme caution when traveling in the area until weather conditions improve.
