CORNER BROOK A 20-year-old man from Corner Brook is in custody after allegedly breaking into a home with a small axe, assaulting a man who lived there and then lighting the man’s car on fire early Sunday morning.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was called to the incident on Pratt Street at around 3:10 a.m.
According to the police, the intruder was known to the occupants of the home and was forced out of the home by the man who was assaulted. The man received only a minor injury in the alleged assault and he was able to extinguish the fire set in his car.
The Corner Brook Fire Department was called to ensure the fire was competely out.
The intruder had fled by the time police arrived, but was located at a home on nearby Bugden Place. The RNC said he tried to flee from the police but was arrested at that location.
The charges against the man include break and entry, common assault, uttering threats, arson, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of a court order.
