The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) in Corner Brook has charged a 23-year-old man in relation to a vehicle collision Monday on Griffin Drive near Water Street in Corner Brook.
Around 1:15 a.m. Monday, patrol officers and members of the RNC Advanced Collision Analyst and Forensic Identification Services, along with paramedics from Reliable Ambulance and firefighters from the Corner Brook Fire Department, responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Griffin Drive. A west-bound vehicle lost control and rolled over an embankment, coming to rest on its roof. The male driver and a female passenger were taken to Western Memorial Regional Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
A second passenger in the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Police investigators said speed was considered to have been a contributing factor.
The RNC arrested and charged the driver of the vehicle today with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. He has been held to appear in provincial court this afternoon. The investigation into the collision is still ongoing.
