CORNER BROOK The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has charged a 65-year-old St. George's man with impaired driving by drug following an accident on the Colemans at the Gardens parking lot on O'Connell Drive this morning.
The man crashed the truck through a guardrail on the parking lot and rolled over an embankment before coming to rest behind houses on Randolph Street.
The man wasn't injured in the crash which occurred at approximately 8:50 a.m.
The RNC is continuing to investigate the incident.
CORNERâBROOK The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary took a man into custody after the truck he was driving crashed through a guardrail and rolled over an embankment at the Colemans at the Gardens parking lot this morning.
Sgt. Brad Saint of the RNC said the mishap occurred just before 9 a.m.
âWhat we know now, not sure of the reason, but a vehicle came onto Colemans parking lot, failed to negotiate the turn, went out through a guardrail and down into the backyard,â said Saint at the scene.
The Dodge Ram truck came to rest not far from homes on Randolph Street, a cul-de-sac, just below the Colemans property.
Saint said from the initial investigation it appears impairment of some kind may have been a factor in the accident. The man was taken to RNC headquarters to undergo further testing.
Saint said the vehicle was travelling down Elizabeth Street and crossed the intersection with OâConnell Drive onto the Colemans parking lot before the accident occurred.
He would not comment on the speed the vehicle was travelling and noted the guardrail in the section is anchored in an area that is made up of crushed stone, and it wouldnât have taken a lot of force to move it.
