Labrador West is shown about mid-afternoon from the Tamarack Golf Course entrance off the Trans-Labrador highway facing east. In the foreground is the trailer court, with Labrador City in the background. Across the lake is Wabush. Reports from witnesses late Monday said the fire was at the Quebec border. High winds and dry weather exacerbated the blaze, a resident told the Telegram late Monday night. Cabins in the area have been lost to the flames. — Photo by Neil Simmons/Special to The Telegram

The RNC in Labrador West is advising the public that the Trans-Labrador Highway remains closed between route 500 (closest to Wabush) and Demille Lake. Exceptions will be made for group escorts of commercial vehicles containing necessary supplies and individuals with certain medical concerns.Time sensitive business will be conducted on the hour providing it is safe to do so. The RNC advises that there is no immediate threat to any nearby municipalities.

There will be an additional water bomber in the region today focusing on the area adjacent to the community to maintain the safe zone. It is anticipated that due to wind direction there will be an increased amount of smoke over the community of Wabush. For this reason residents are advised to avoid outdoor physical activity and homeowners are reminded to keep windows of your home shut and turn off any ventilation systems to prevent smoke from entering. Cabin owners are reminded in the interest of safety to not attempt to enter the area.

"additional water bomber"? How about another 5 or 6? Cheap skate government. You wouldn't believe the amount of wildlife being killed by this fire:(
