A 25-year-old man was charged with impaired operation of a snowmobile when he was arrested early this morning in Makkovik by the RCMP.

RCMP received a complaint about 7:45 a.m. that a male from the community was driving a snow machine under the influence of alcohol.

The suspect was located and was found to have had a blood-alcohol reading of more than two times the legal limit.

A court date of Feb. 26 has been set for provincial court at Makkovik for the accused on charges of impaired driving and impaired driving while over 80 mg.

The RCMP notes this is the second time in 10 days the RCMP in Makkovik have charged someone with impaired driving. Both incidents are the result of all-night drinking and still being intoxicated the following morning.

Police would like to remind people that it takes time for alcohol to exit the body. Even though you have stopped drinking you can still be impaired and subject to charges.
