There is still no word on the whereabouts of a Newfoundland chef missing in Ontario, but his employer has released a statement out of concern for his well-being.
Jonathan Gushue, 41 years old, married and a father of three, has been missing since New Year’s Eve. He was last seen in Toronto. Gushue has worked as the executive chef at Langdon Hall Country House Hotel and Spa in Cambridge, Ont. since 2005. Under his guidance, the dining hall was named on the San Pellegrino World’s Top 100 restaurants list.
Langdon Hall has released the following statement. “It is with sadness and concern that we report that Waterloo Regional Police has issued a missing persons alert for our executive chef.”
“We can only hope that Jonathan is safe and will return quickly to his family. Our thoughts are with his wife and young children.” said Langdon Hall owner and managing director Mary Beaton.
Gushue is well known within the local culinary world. Food critic Karl Wells watched him rise up through the local and national ranks. He saw Gushue at a festival in Elliston on the Bonavista peninsula last fall.
“I’m really shocked. Jonathon is the last person on earth I expected to just disappear like this. He’s always been very steady, very reliable, extremely professional, and very much devoted to his family, from what I know,” Wells said.
Gushue is described as a male, white, approximately 5'10" and 180 lbs. He has short dark hair and blue eyes.
He may also be going by the name of Jonathan Herder, which is his middle name.
