Nunatsiavut president Sarah Leo has extended her congratulations to two distinguished elders for being recognized for their significant contributions to their communities and the province.

Fran Williams of Nain has been named to the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Order will be bestowed on her Tuesday by Lt.-Gov. John Crosbie during a ceremony at Government House in St. John’s.

Max Winters of Happy Valley-Goose Bay was also inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame during a ceremony in St. John’s Friday.

“On behalf of all beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement, I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Fran and Max,” Leo said in a news release. “They are both true ambassadors of our people, and I am pleased to see they have been recognized for their accomplishments.”

The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavor benefiting the province and its residents in an outstanding manner.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame was launched in June of this year to honor people and organizations that have made significant volunteer contributions to their communities.
