Author and retired senator William Rompkey has offered his congratulations to the newest leaders in the Innu government in Labrador.

Early this morning it was announced that Prote Poker was elected grand chief of the Innu Nation and Jeremy Andrew deputy grand chief.

This morning at the Holiday Inn in St. John's, while opening a half-day Board of Trade conference on opportunities in Labrador, Rompkey spoke briefly about the election results.

"I really believe, I think others will, too, that that signals well for Natuashish," Rompkey said.

Presentations are expected later this morning from representatives of the Innu Business Development Centre, Nunatsiavut Group of Companies, New Millennium Iron Corp, Pressure Pipe and Steel Fabrication, Woodward Group, Labrador North Chamber of Commerce and Humber Valley Paving.

Minister of Transportation and Works Tom Hedderson is also scheduled to speak with attendees.

More from the conference will be available later today at thetelegram.com

Apart from living off the public purse for decades, what did this person do to improve anything for the Innu? Nothing.
