The Nunatsiavut people have elected Sarah Leo as their next president.

The election results will be official as of Thursday.

Leo garnered 1,107 votes, with Johannes Lampe receiving 1,071 votes.

The latest vote was a runoff following an earlier election on May 1 in which no clear winner was elected.

Nunatsiavut election rules require the winning candidate to receive more than 50 per cent of votes.
