Toronto , Canada

The writing challenge is the largest essay writing competition in Canada for Aboriginal youth.

Candace’s story, “Ghosts of the Future”, was the winning entry in the 14-18

Year-old youth category. Candace won a $2500 cash prize, an all-expense paid trip for two to Toronto for the awards ceremony, and her story will now be published in a national magazine.

“I’m really excited because I worked hard on my story,” said Candace.

“It’s really nice to win and I can’t wait to go on my trip to Toronto. I’m nervous

about accepting my award but I’m sure that at that moment, I’ll be okay.” When

asked to describe her story, she quoted Bruce Cockburn, “It’s a story about

kicking at the darkness until it bleeds sunlight.”
