The RCMP in Happy Valley/Goose Bay are investigating a robbery that occurred last Wednesday morning at around 10 a.m.

The police were called after a was observed outdoors in the Spruce Park area yelling and carrying a baseball bat. The man broke into a house and then proceeded to enter a convenience store, slamming the baseball bat on the counter and threatening staff.

The male then fled the store and jumped into a water/sewer truck and, after threatening the driver, proceeded to steal the truck. The RCMP say he drove the truck a short distance before he went off the road and into a snow bank. The male was arrested a short time later in the area without incident.

This investigation is in the early stages, however, and the following charges are pending against a 32-year-old man from Goose Bay. He faces charges of robbery with violence, assault with a weapon, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of cocaine and impaired operation of a motor vehicle. He was in provincial court Feb. 20 for a bail hearing.

Labrador District RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) is assisting the Happy Valley/Goose Bay Detachment with this investigation.
