The RCMP were advised of a missing person on February 16th, 2013 at approximately 7:30 pm.  Information was received that a 31 year old Makkovic Resident had left his residence around 02:30 am the same day to go to a cabin and not returned.  The family members had searched the local area and the cabin but were unable to locate the male. Ground Search & Rescue Teams (SAR) from Makkovic and Postville were assembled and started to conduct a search.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) was advised as well as Fire & Emergency Services (FES) and air support was requested.  The search continued into the night however the male was not located.  A Cormorant Helicopter was on site this morning at first light and conducted a search of the area.  Universal Helicopters out of Goose Bay was also dispatched to the area and conducted a search. At approximately 10:30 am, the male was located by halfway between Makkovic & Postville on the groomed skidoo trail broken down.  Universal helicopters landed and brought the male to the clinic in Makkovic where he was assessed by medical personnel and sent home.

The RCMP would like to remind all residents who venture outdoors especially on snow machine to take the necessary precautions to stay safe.  Always ride with another partner, dress appropriate for the weather and check local weather reports. Carry extra clothing & food and notify someone where you are going and how long it will take to get there.  Travel with a GPS is recommended as well or equip yourself with a S.P.O.T. device. When traveling over ice, be extra careful as ice conditions change from place to place.
