No official word on acts, but rumours flying

It’s still more than five months away, but already people are abuzz with talk of the 2013 Salmon Festival. Other than what acts that will rock Centennial Field this year, the big question is when the event will take place.

On Wednesday morning, the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor confirmed the 2013 Salmon Festival concert is scheduled for Saturday, July 13.

Earlier in the week the Town posted in the events section of it’s website that the festival, which includes other events like the salmon dinner and kitchen party, will take place from July 11-15 with Grand Falls-Windsor Day scheduled for Monday, July 15.

While concert promoter SRO Entertainment, as well as the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, have been quiet regarding which acts might grace the stage at Centennial Field for the anticipated Salmon Festival concert, it hasn’t stopped rumours from flying.

A popular Atlantic Canadian concert news and announcement site, atlanticcanadarocks.ca, Tweeted on Tuesday that The Eagles, Nicki Manaj, and Maroon 5 would be playing in Newfoundland on July 13, but that information has not been confirmed by the promoter.

This year’s concert follows two record-breaking years for the event, last year over 25,000 fans came to town to take in performances by some of the words biggest entertainers such as Aerosmith, Flo Rida, and Carly Rae Jepson, and in 2011, Kiss rocked the stage.

The event calendar didn’t specify which events will take place on which days except that Grand Falls-Windsor Day will take place on Monday, July 15. Historically, the Salmon Festival Concert has taken place on the Saturday of the Festival. If this year follows suit, that would make the date for the concert July 13.

    I would love to see Nickelback, Hedley, Eminem, Pink, Bon Jovi, Maroon 5 at GFW Salmom Fest. I haven't went yet but was planning on going this year depending on the lineup.!!

    I saw the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac and would definitely go see them both again! Maroon 5 would be great too! So excited if either of these would play!! Bring it on Grand Falls!! :)

    Relaxe ! If you don't like them I'm sure no one will miss you if you don't go.there are lot of people who do & probably can't wait To go. In the mean time , acdc, rush would be awesome.

    Watch their last long run tour on youtube. Should of been the final run tour. These guys will not rock the fest like past acts. Surf music.....Not going this year along with a lot of my friends.

      I agree with anyone who says that the Eagles is washed-up surf music that very few of the younger crowd would pay to see. If in fact they do play 2013, I will pay to see everyone else, and plan to be mind-numbing drunk by the time the Eagles play. I don't believe they are a bigger draw than Aerosmith. I would pay a million dollars to see Adam Levine on the stage, tho!!

      It has been published in the advertiser that the headliner will be the Eagles. God I hope that's wrong. What a snore that would be. I will be leaving the province to go to a sensible concert if that's the case. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz!!

    Folks...relax a bit will ya and be thankful you are getting another "big show" this year. Why all the hate? If you don't like the group(s), leave your sorry ass home and don't go. You can't be everything to everyone and that's hard to appreciate given the society we live in. So congrats Grand Falls-Windsor on continuing to step up when most others don't. See you in July!!!

    Not the Eagles I totally agree. I am a 38 and play a lot of guitar so you think this would fit the bill. The Eagles were popular in my era too but Rock shows rule the fest. Going to regret this I think. I'm not going this year. Great if you like surf music.
