ST. JOHN’S – The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame announced the opening of nominations for its volunteer recognition awards.

“The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame allows exceptional people to stand as an inspiration to our community and particularly to our youth,” says Toby Barnes, President of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Newfoundland and Labrador.

“The success of our inaugural year was tremendous. The Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame Award is the gold standard in volunteering and giving.”

A maximum of eight awards (not more than two posthumously) per year will be awarded with recipients nominated from two categories:

Individuals

• Who are current and/or past residents of Newfoundland and Labrador; and

• Who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, are considered deserving of the award.

Organizations or Non-Profit Groups:

• Who have made outstanding contributions without reward or gain, for the betterment of others; and

• That, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, is considered deserving of the award.

A Selection Committee will review the nominations and present their list of outstanding inductees at the Annual NL Volunteer Hall of Fame Event. The deadline for receipt of nominations for the 2013 Newfoundland and Labrador Volunteer Hall of Fame Induction is March 31, 2013. Nomination forms are available at the Volunteer Hall of Fame’s website: www.volunteerhalloffame.ca

The 2012 Inductees were:  Geoffrey Carnell, Community Sector Council Newfoundland and Labrador, The East Coast Trail Association, Brother Jim McSheffery, Vera Perlin, Margot Reid, Noel Rideout, and Malcom “Max” Winters.
