A 28 year old male from Sheshatshiu is facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, driving without a valid drivers' licence, and resisting/obstructing a police officer.

The man was arrested early this morning. RCMP in Sheshatshiu received a complaint at around 12:30 a.m. that the community's fire truck had been stolen from the Fire Department. Officers located the truck being driven on Tsheniss Drive near the school. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was arrested for impaired driving.

Once the driver was removed from the truck, he fled on foot. The driver, who was an off-duty volunteer fireman, was apprehended within minutes. Further investigation revealed that his blood alcohol level was more then two times the legal limit.

The man will appear in provincial court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Feb. 27. The Fire Truck was not damaged and it was returned to the Fire Chief.
