December 20, 2012, - Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Hydro) are requesting that customers in Nain take measures to conserve electricity during the holiday season. Currently, significant repairs are required on one of the three generating units in the diesel plant; however this work cannot be completed until early January due to delivery of large equipment that is unavailable locally.

Sufficient generation remains at the Nain Diesel Plant to provide power to all customers. As a precautionary measure, efforts by customers to limit their electricity use will help lessen the generation demand on the available generating units and help to avoid possible outages. When repairs are complete, spare generation capacity will be restored.

Customers can conserve energy by using minimum electricity for heating, keeping lights and holiday lights off as much as possible, and avoid using non-essential household appliances.

Hydro apologizes for this temporary inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience. Customers may call the Hydro Power Outages and Emergencies (24 hrs) line at 1-888-737-1296 for further information and updates.

You think that NL Government would put in Hydro lines to the Coast, so this will never happen ever again...! Or was that too much to ask the Government?
