Alarm bells rang out at 6:50 last Wednesday morning after an early fire at the Mariner’s Galley Restaurant.

Fire crews from Happy Valley-Goose Bay Fire Department arrived on scene bringing the fire under control.

The fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen area as well as damage to the seating area of the restaurant.

Later in the morning an RCMP Fire Investigator was on scene doing an assessment to the safety building, due to extensive damage to the roof and load bearing supports.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going and at this point the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen area.

The restaurant was in the process of starting up for breakfast when the fire broke out.

No further information was available at press time.
