A 34-year-old Labrador City man has been charged after driving across the front lawn of the RNC headquarters in the Labrador town causing damage to the lawn, and with further charges after he allegedly drove another vehicle off the road and engaged in a physical altercation with the driver of that vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Those incidents occurred Thursday afternoon.

The accused is charged with failing to remain at an accident scene, assault with a weapon, common assault, uttering threats, dangerous driving, and two counts of mischief.

About 1 p.m. Thursday, RNC officers noticed damage to the front lawn of the RNC headquarters in Labrador City.

It appeared a vehicle had driven off the road, across the driveway, and tore up the front lawn of the RNC property before speeding away.

Shortly after this, the RNC received a call of a hit and run. The report alleged the suspect involved in the hit and run had intentionally hit a vehicle to drive it off the road and then continued to physically attack the driver.

The victim and accused were not known to each other.

At about 2 p.m. the accused turned himself in to the RNC.

The accused was held in custody for an appearance in court.

The RNC expressed thanks to the general public for assistance in the investigation. Investigators are asking anyone with any additional information in relation to this incident to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
