Interim Liberal leader Bob Rae has officially requested that Elections Canada investigate the campaign spending of current Labrador MP Peter Penashue during the 41st general election.

In a letter, released to the media early Sunday afternoon, Rae states recent reports made by the media, if true, could have compromised the results in a closely contested race.

"While I have no doubt that Elections Canada continues to review Mr. Penashue's campaign return, it seems clear to me that there is enough public evidence to warrant the commencement of a formal investigation by you as Commissioner," wrote Rae.

I don't consider a list of the faux-scandals this country's liberals have been touting as even being worthy of consideration and I also do not consider a new liberal or dipper, who would be as useless to us as Cleary or Jack, as being worthy of consideration

I'm also wondering if you understand what the term "civilized terms" means. It appears you either don't or you're purposefully twisting words. Like every other liberal

We Newfoundlanders have a proud history as a reverse bellweather since the '60s. We've always given the federal government-winning party the one-fingered salute on election day. Guess what they do back to us after the election? Getting rid of Penashue will go over about as well as getting rid of Toronto's Mayor Ford: it'll never happen. He isn't going anywhere and does anyone here really think that adding another We Love Khadr Jack (who makes me ashamed that I live here in St. John's) or another Save the Long Gun Registry Simms (both ineffectual, empty suits) will help us in any way? We need a rep who is on civilized terms with Harper because, whether you like Harper or not, he is calling the shots

Anybody would be better than Mr. Penashue. The only time he is allowed to talk by Stevie Harper, all he does is repeat the party line never directly answering the question. "I do a lot of work behind the scenes." etc. etc. If I never knew better, I'd say that he must be in hospital or have a serious illness. Time to get rid of him and give the NL minister to a George Baker type of person to fight for us.

Didn't McGuinty just prorouge indefinitely? Unlike Harper's temporary prorogation? You know what they say about glass houses...

If Penashue cheated and lied even before he got elected, how can he be trusted at all? Just another politician without a conscience thinking he can live richly off the taxpayers who pay his salary. Get the investigation going. Give him a lie detector test to start with.

I see the Cons have their shills out to post on behalf of the corrupt Con that stole an election in the Big land. If Harper can't legitamately win the Cons will just break election laws and plead ignorance even though it was led by a very experienced organizer. Thanks to the brother in law at the INNU airlines they all thought this would never see the light of day. NFLD'ers and Lab. for the most part never fell for your lies now maybe the rest of the province will become aware of the truth.

Investigate, charge and convict then evict. Kicking Peter out of office will be one of the best things to happen to Newfoundland & Labrador in recent history. He stole the election, but then again, he is not alone when you look at some other ridings where Cons won. Harper is adopting the US style of politicing and is using the Republican Party as his model.

So overspend when you don't have the money. Then get elected to make a salary where you can afford to pay what you owe. I wonder what Peter would have done if he didn't get elected. Time for him to go.
