The NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) is again taking on-the-ground action against the proposed Lower Churchill hydro project. Members of the NCC are gathering today in front of the gate that prohibits access to the “construction site” at Muskrat Falls.

The provincial government and Nalcor continue to mislead the people of this province and ignore its moral and legal obligations to the people of NunatuKavut, says President Russell in a press release. “They just disclosed to us and all the people of the province that they have spent $30 million on so called ‘preliminary’ work as if it was nothing, they deny our people access to our traditional lands and continue to trample on our rights.”

The people of NunatuKavut are taking this stand to protect their land, their resources and their aboriginal rights. NCC encourages its members to participate and invites supporters in this just cause. The press release said.

Why is it each every time it looks like there may be some development that is beneficial for the province there is one group or another that wants to get rich of it before it is started.

But can you grab the concept that the Aboriginal people has been fighting these issues from day 1...? When the land claims are setteled, the fighting will stop. Give us rights that is ours, thats all...
