For the third time this week, the RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Thursday night at the Esso Gas Station located at the corner of Loring Drive and Hamilton River Road.
Shortly before 9:00 pm Thursday night, a lone male carrying a weapon entered the Esso Gas Station and demanded money from the attendant on duty. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect is described as a male believed to be in his twenties, 5'8" - 6' tall with a slender build.
RCMP would like to add the following:
The RCMP would like to remind business owners and employees to be aware of crime preventions strategies they can employ to increase security in and around their buildings.
Some suggestions are to ensure there is adequate lighting in and around buildings, trim nearby brush, lock exterior doors that are not in use, use two or more employees when possible, ensure video recording equipment is installed and functioning and keep windows and sight lines clear and unobstructed both in and around buildings. It's also very important to limit the cash available particularly in the later hours.
Anyone seeking further information on crime prevention ideas or ways to make their business more secure can certainly contact their local RCMP Detachment.
Anyone who might have seen someone in the area around this time or with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP Detachment at (709) 896-3383.
Anyone with information and who wishes to remain anonymous, can call Crime Stoppers anytime at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Calls to Crime Stoppers are not traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on your tip, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
