Nunatsiavut beneficiaries are headed to polls once again, as a second election is set to take place for the 2012 Nunatsiavut Presidential Election.

The second poll will be held on June 11, with advanced polling starting June 4.

Candidate, Johannes Lampe of Nain, is leading in the voting as of May 1 by a total of 821 ballots, while Sarah Leo, also from Nain, is close behind with 742 votes.

According to the Nunatsiavut’s Elections Act, in order to be declared president the elected individual requires an ‘absolute majority’ (over 50%) of all votes cast. If an absolute majority isn't reached, a second vote would be scheduled between the two candidates who received the most votes in the first poll unless the second candidate concedes or withdraws their name from the second ballot.

A total of 2,132 beneficiaries went to the polls on May 1.
