Labrador MP Todd Russell will hold a telephone virtual town hall on Wednesday, Feb. 23, to get further input from Labradorians concerned with the proposed Muskrat Falls hydroelectricity project.

“Throughout Labrador, I find that people still have many questions and concerns about this proposed development,” Russell said. “This virtual town hall meeting will provide another forum for people to make their views known and their voices heard.”

The meeting will be carried out by phone from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., or 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. for those living south of Black Tickle.

Residents will receive a telephone message at home shortly before the start of the session inviting them to participate. Those who miss or do not receive an invitation message will also be able to call in toll-free.

The toll-free number will be provided to the public next week.

Participants will be able to make comments or ask questions in a format similar to radio call-in programs. The virtual town hall will also include push-button survey questions, which will allow those involved to provide instant feedback on a number of specific questions.

This initiative follows up on Russell’s recent mail-in survey on the proposed Muskrat Falls project. Full results of the mail-in survey will be released when final tabulations have been completed.

I would like to remind you all of tonight’s “Virtual Town Hall” on the proposed Muskrat Falls project, which I am holding across Labrador. This is a large teleconference, similar in format to an open-line radio program. You can just listen, or you can come on the line with your own comments or questions. There will also be a touch-tone survey. This Virtual Town Hall takes place tonight, Wednesday February 23rd, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. (8:00 to 9:30 in southern Labrador communities which follow Newfoundland time.) If you have a listed residential telephone number, you should receive automatically receive a phone message inviting you to take part shortly before the Town Hall begins. All you have to do is stay on the line and follow the instructions. If you do not receive this phone message, you can also call in to take part. The number is 1-877-229-8493, which is toll-free in Labrador. You will be asked for a code, which is: 17675. Please feel free to share this invitation with anyone else in Labrador who may be interested in taking part. I look forward to hearing from you and others across Labrador during tonight’s Town Hall session.
