Patricia Ford, the Nunatsiavut assembly speaker, was found innocent on August 25 of breaching section 4.1 of the code which states “An Elected Official shall not consume alcohol or illegal drugs or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while conducting or discussing Nunatsiavut Government business or the business of an Inuit Community Government or an Inuit Community Corporation.”
The ad-hoc disciplinary committee found that Ms. Ford had taken time off from her duties and was not conducting official business at the time of the alleged incident.
The committee decided the conduct of Ms. Ford at the time of the alleged incident, did however warrant counseling.
This is the second incident of a Nunatsiavut member being charged with misconduct involving alcohol this summer.
