The Westville and Area Garden Club held its monthly meeting July 21 by hosting a garden tour of various members gardens. Several types of gardens were displayed, from formal gardens through woodland, slope and bank to boxwood and container gardens.A wide variety of shrubs, trees, rose bushes and perennial flowers, like lilies and hostas, were used. Gardens visited included Esme and Murray Clish, Elaine Garland, Diana Mannion and Anne Leibcher, all of Cowan Park in Westville. Special mention must be made of Margaret Munro's garden in Westville. Munro, 82, singlehandedly tends to a spectacular garden of lilies, roses and more. It even includes some high-bush blueberries.
The tour ended at John and Joyce MacKarney's home, who showed off their vegetable garden. A lunch of fresh biscuits and homemade strawberry jam was served. The Westville club will host the fall rally on Oct. 16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Westville.
Topics to be addressed include roses, raised beds, herbs and master gardening tips. All are welcomed; admission fee is $6.
