As a result of the H1N1 virus, the provincial government has purchased 20 new ventilators for its hospitals.
Alison Dower, communications for Labrador Grenfell Health, said nine of the machines would be going to its three hospitals, Captain William Jackman Memorial in Labrador City, Charles S. Curtis Memorial in St. Anthony and Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
She said she was unsure of just how many each hospital would receive at this time.
Trained professionals such as respiratory therapists and anastegolists are required to operate the equipment.
