Happy Valley-Goose Bay resident, David Winters, 54, was found not guilty today by Provincial Court Judge Lois Skanes.

Winter’s was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

It was alleged that the victim had been out for a night of partying and went to Winters’ home for a sleep over on the night of April 17, 2011. Where the alleged incidents took place.

Appearing via video teleconference from St. John’s, NL, Justice Skanes delivered the decision to a courtroom of family and supporters of the alleged victim and the accused. 

Justice Skanes said, “In all foregoing, I find that the Crown has not proven its case against David Winters beyond a reasonable doubt and the charges are dismissed.”

Winter’s is a well-known member in the community for his role as a volunteer and coach in several sporting organizations, including Minor Soccer, and formerly a group home worker in the area.
