Just in time for Canada Day celebrations, the NL government announced that as of midnight Thursday, the outdoor fire ban across the province is no longer in effect. In a press release issued by the province, Forestry Officials have determined that current weather and forest conditions warrant lifting the current fire ban.

The province wide fire ban had placed restrictions on the use of fireworks, campfires, open fires, use of outdoor wood burning devices, backyard fires, backyard fire pits, and beach fires.

Forestry officials encourage the public to be vigilant and to exercise caution when lighting fireworks, in and around forested areas.

To report a forest fire call toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).

For more information contact the District Forest Office in your area. Contact numbers can be found at http://www.gov.nl.ca/nr/department/contact/forestry/forestry.htm
