Why are you running for council?
I always felt it was important for all citizens to get out and“vote and participate” in our democratic process. It is only together we can build a healthy and productive community through open communication and information sharing. I have been involved in our town as a volunteer and social advocate for the past twenty years and more specifically, I have been involved with municipal government in excess of 15 years. I strongly believe I have lots to offer and truly enjoy being involved as our community grows. As a person who grew up here and second generation to great parents who were some of the founders of this community, I want to see our town prosper but also stay strong to the heritage which our town was built on. Hard working people, who wanted to make a living and provide for their families while still maintaining their tradition of hunting, fishing, trapping and other outdoor activities. When asked, why I want to run my response remains constant —because this is a great community and a good place to raise a family and I would like to have input. As a people person, I always like to hear what people have to say. I may never always agree with all the people all the time, but I think if we keep the broader community in mind and respect others opinion, we will be OK.
What are your top three priorities?
There are many challenges facing our community and managing change has become increasingly evident. Too many to put in a short article, however, if elected, I would like to see the following issues/initiatives advanced. 1) our town needs a new recreation (sports-plex) center with a new pool that is accessible to all people. This new recreation center should house such amenities as walking areas, a proper sized pool and a place for young people to call their own, similar to a youth center; 2) the replacement of Hamilton River Road — currently this road is in deplorable shape and needs to be totally replaced with three lanes and the proper number of street lights; and 3) to fight and totally oppose the current proposed hydro rate increase. If the Government is permitted to put this in place, it will drastically negatively affect all citizens (especially our seniors and those on a fixed income) and the town’s ability to run it’s operations (such as the arena).
Why should people vote for you?
When people go to the polls, I would like them to consider me for the following reasons. I have lived here just about all my life except for two short periods when I spent time away for school and medical purposes. I believe that I am a team player with the broader community in mind with a strong social conscience, as well as understanding the economic fiscal needs of our community. I have the experience, knowledge and — most importantly — the patience to listen to people and try to come up with solutions that everyone can live with. On September 24, I respectfully ask for your support and consideration. If you would like to touch base with me, please email Stanoliver1965@gmail.com
