The Happy Valley-Goose Bay Green Team’s work is coming to an end for the 2010 summer season. The four-man team tackled mosquitoes, heat waves, dust and litter to clean up the trail that runs beside the Churchill River along Mud Lake Road. They cleared brush, picked up garbage and widened the trail. Crushed gravel has been spread along the trail and topsoil has been placed two feet on either side of the walking trail.

The Green Team has also planted trees along the trail.

Apart from their work on the trail, the Green Team held four environmental awareness events. A partner thank-you was held on Thursday, august 16.

“The Green Team has had a very productive summer,” said Green Team leader Gillian Dyson. “The team members have all worked very hard.”

Will the community of HVGB stand collectively to stop the gouging taking place in this once wonderful town? Why are land prices and housing prices stealing opportunities from youth to old alike to live their dreams? Why with the advent of the southern highway are citizens of HVGB still paying some of the highest prices for goods in the country? Hold council, the mayor and town administrators accountable for not mitigating the negative impact of the hydro project. Exactly what are taxpayers paying for with the new seniors tax? Will this gouge on seniors pay another company to buy public land and have that land sold at inflated prices to the public? There is a serious lack of leadership in HVGB, unfortunately it take an election to change it.
